Tteokbokki with Chilli Master Sauce (or Udon Noodles)

A mild and deeply savoury version of Korea’s beloved street food. With just enough spice to warm you, this is a favourite with kids and grown-ups alike. 

Serves: 2 
Cooking Time: 20–25 mins 

Ingredients: 

  • 1 cup of Korean rice cakes (tteok) – soak if hard, or substitute with udon noodles

  • 3 tbsp Mama Kim’s Chilli Master Sauce

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 cup water

  • 1/2 cup spring onions, chopped

  • 1/2 Fish cake (optional)

  • 1 tsp cooking oil
     

Instructions: 

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a non-stick pan.

  1. Simmer on medium heat 8–10 mins.

  1. Continue simmering until glossy and thick. 
     

Serve with: Boiled egg, sesame seeds, or extra spring onion. 

Tips: 

  • Add more water and soy sauce for a soupy version (1.5–2 cups).

  • Add sugar for sweetness or omit fish cake for vegan version.
